Theme: Access, Quality, and Competitiveness at the Core of Higher Education
The National Higher Education Summit, organized in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education-Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (CHED-UniFAST) and the Philippine Normal University (PNU), was held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City on May 15, 2024. The Summit was part of the 4th National Higher Education Day and the 30th anniversary of CHED’s establishment under Republic Act 11522 on May 18, 1994. It offered an opportunity for leaders of higher education institutions to strengthen and forge further partnerships to collectively address issues and other concerns in the country’s education system.
The first part of the NHED Summit was “USAP: Access, Quality, and Competitiveness at the Core of Higher Education Reforms in the Philippines." The highlight was the report by CHED Chairman J. Prospero De Vera III, titled "ULAT: The State of Higher Education in the Philippines," in the afternoon, where he provided an in-depth elaboration on the current state of the country’s higher education.
President Marcos Jr. and CHED Chairman Popoy De Vera also viewed a display of the three winning paintings from the 3rd NHED’s on-the-spot painting competition in 2023, dubbed "PINTAgumpay: A Celebration of the Success of Philippine Higher Education."
